Animal Health Distributors Association (AHDA):
an Association of responsible animal health product distributors,
dedicated to serving the best interests of its members; in particular by
protecting their rights to sell and supply, and securing the continued
availability of, a wide range of non-prescription animal medicines. The
Association also strives to secure the continued availability of such
medicines for its members by constant negotiation with manufacturers,
government and the European Union.

Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Association (AMTRA):
an independent regulatory body whose task it is to ensure that
the marketing and distribution of animal medicines in the UK is undertaken
in a responsible manner by AMTRA qualified persons.

Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI):
the
trade association for about a hundred companies in the UK producing
prescription medicines. Its member companies research, develop, manufacture
and supply more than 90 per cent of the medicines prescribed through the
National Health Service (NHS).

British Veterinary Association (BVA):
the national representative body for the British veterinary
profession. It is a voluntary body with over 10,000 members. Veterinary
surgeons work in private practice, in industry, in government service and in
research, both in the UK and overseas. Most working veterinary surgeons are
members of the Association and of more than 50 geographical and specialist

set up in April 2008 when the five previous levy boards (including the
Milk Development Council) were replaced by one statutory levy board, the
Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and DairyCo covers

profitability of dairy farming.

National Pet
Month (NPM): a registered charity unique in bringing together
animal welfare charities and professional bodies throughout the UK with
the common goal of improving the welfare of pets. National Pet Month
2010 ran from 3
April to 3 May. The charity aims to promote responsible pet ownership, make people
aware of the benefits of pets to people, increase public awareness of
services available from professionals involved with pet animals and raise
awareness of working animals.

Pet Advisory Committee (PAC)
formed in 1974, comprises the major animal welfare, veterinary
and local government organisations. Its remit is to examine the role of
companion animals in society and to make recommendations to central and

interests of the animal, its owner and the wider community.

Pet Health Council (PHC)
has the specific aim of promoting the
health and welfare of pet animals in the interests of both pets and people.
The PHC's work is supported by a panel of medical and veterinary advisors
who are experts in this field. The PHC produce a range of leaflets offering
hints, tips and advice to the public on areas such as pet health, beating
stress and pet nutrition while for the health professional there is a
members only section with an on-line library covering various aspects of pet
and human health.

Responsible Use of Medicines in Agriculture Alliance (RUMA)
promotes the highest standards of food safety, animal health and animal
welfare in British livestock farming. A unique initiative involving
organisations representing every stage of the food chain, RUMA aims to
promote a co-ordinated and integrated approach to best practice in the
use of medicines. RUMA membership spans the food chain and includes
organisations representing interests in agriculture, veterinary
practice, the pharmaceutical industry, retails, consumers and animal
welfare interests.

Society of Companion Animal Studies
(SCAS): a registered charity, formed in 1979 to promote awareness and
understanding of human - companion animal relationships. SCAS is
particularly concerned with vulnerable groups of people in society - people
who are severely disabled either emotionally or physically; people who live
in institutions such as hospitals and prisons; people in nursing homes and
residential accommodation; elderly people; children; and those suffering pet
loss, either temporarily or through death.

Sustainable Control of Parasites in Sheep (SCOPS): SCOPS is
directed by a steering committee chaired by the National Sheep
Association and includes representatives from SNFU, NOAH, AHDA, RUMA,
CSL/VLA, SVS, Defra and SAC. The group has been formed to develop
strategies for parasite control in sheep and to oversee the delivery of

Marketing Association (VMA): an association of members who make
it their business to stay in touch with what's happening in animal
health marketing today. It is a non-profit organisation comprised of
marketers from over 50 companies, dedicated to raising the standard when
it comes to the promotion of animal health products.
