Peter Jones made Honorary Member of NOAH
Peter Jones has been made an Honorary Member of NOAH, in
recognition of his contribution to NOAH and to the animal health industry.
He is the former executive director of international animal health
federation IFAH, former head of the veterinary unit of the European Agency
for the Evaluation of Veterinary Medicines (EMEA) and was a much appreciated
contributor to NOAH’s work when he was based in the UK.
The award was made at the association’s Annual Dinner in
London on 23rd April.
He said: "I feel very privileged to be given this honour
which I know is only accorded to very few colleagues by NOAH, and I am
really very proud to think that what little I have done as a contribution to
the animal health sector, both whilst working in industry and as a regulator
has been recognised in this way”.

The National Office of Animal
Health was formed on 1 January 1986 to represent UK companies which
research, develop, manufacture and market licensed animal health
products. The association has 28 corporate members and 8 associate
members. In 2006 the NOAH sales survey showed a total market of £373.2m,
around 90% of the total UK market.

Peter Jones graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary
Science at Liverpool University in July 1971. After several years in
general veterinary practice in the United Kingdom and Canada he joined
the pharmaceutical industry in the animal health sector. He has held a
number of appointments in research and regulatory affairs in
multinational companies and has served as chairman of the UK Association
of Veterinarians in Industry. He has published reports of his work on
antimicrobials and anthelmintics in veterinary medicine and on aspects
of registration of veterinary medicinal products. He joined the European
Agency for the Evaluation of Veterinary Medicines (EMEA) in the year of
its creation in June 1995, and was appointed Head of the Veterinary Unit
taking the lead role in establishing the unit responsible for the
authorisation of veterinary medicines. In October 2005 he was appointed
Executive Director of IFAH, the International Federation for Animal
Health, based in Brussels, and retired in 2007.
