NOAH back 1-1-1 concept in on-line video
In its 25th anniversary year, the National Office of
Animal Health (NOAH) is looking ahead to the issues that continue to matter
to the animal health industry, and to the availability of medicines for the
health and welfare of animals.
In a
video
recently produced by NOAH to mark this milestone anniversary,
representatives from the veterinary, farming and food industries were
interviewed on the 1-1-1 Concept –
the proposal from NOAH’s European equivalent federation,
IFAH-Europe, for a
true single market for veterinary medicines. This would be created as
follows: submission of a single dossier, a single scientific assessment, and
a single decision to license the product for use in all member states
simultaneously.
“While we recognise the need for a robust marketing
authorisation system for animal medicines, the current European regulatory
system places unnecessary burdens on the administrative and regulatory
authorities and the industry itself. This delays the authorisation of useful
animal medicines, meaning they take longer to become avail able for
veterinary surgeons and farmers, impacting on animal health and welfare and
business alike,” said Phil Sketchley, Chief Executive of NOAH.
“We at NOAH and
IFAH-Europe along
with many of our colleagues who play a role in keeping our farm animals
healthy and producing good, safe, affordable food, think it is time for a
true single market for veterinary medicines in Europe. The forthcoming
review of European Directives provides an ideal opportunity to create this”
he added.
