Milk withdrawal periods and dairy cattle flukicide products: new advice document available
12th May 2020
NOAH has published an updated document, produced in conjunction with the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), describing the milk withdrawal periods for the various dairy cattle flukicidal products on the market.
Vets, Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs) and farmers should read the instructions on the product labels carefully. The prescribing decision rests with the vet or the SQP and when prescribing it is important for them to be aware of withdrawal period requirements specified on the labels and to highlight the required withdrawal period to the farmer. The farmer should then follow the advice given by the vet or the SQP.
Some of the milk withdrawal periods for flukicidal products in dairy animals place restrictions on the use of the product depending on the stage of pregnancy so it is important that prescribers and users carefully consider this information when treating animals.
